about

"Tethers" is the first digital single of 2021 from Vancouver's Queer, Alt-Rock outfit Strange Breed. The song is a slight departure from the usual realm of social and political commentary that fans of the band know and love. However, as you lean into it, you'll quickly learn that it still has teeth; bared and gritted. "Tethers" explores the dissociation and detachment that often happens when one commits themselves to following a specific path; be it a passion, a belief, a way of life.

It is the entry point into the angst ridden adolescent mind that we have all at one time occupied; a space often devoid of sense or meaning, simultaneously heavy with a lust for life and a desire to disappear. With this next series of releases, the band has found themselves leaning into these roots for the messages behind the music - the things that shaped them into the queer, feminist artists that they are today.

lyrics

I’m not sorry, I am sicker than you know

Common Hollywood don’t grow on me like it does for you

I am happy being queer and broke

You’re an empty pit they fill with smoke

Do you think it’s strange, that I am so far away?

Do you think it’s strange, that I could stay forever?

Does it make you see?

That I have cut the tethers that bind me

Define me

Don’t you worry, I have seen the pits of hell

It’s all blurry, but the coffee’s hot and they feed me well

You don’t have to pray for me anymore

You don’t have to pray for me anymore

And no one has to like my shit, but I’d love for you to roll with it

Do you think it’s strange, that I am so far away?

Do you think it’s strange, that I could stay forever?

Does it make you see?

That I have cut the tethers that bind me

Define me

Bind me

Define me

Bind me, Define me
